RHM Students Recognized at Honors Tea
April 29, 2009
The Honors Tea is an awards ceremony held on main campus to recognize students for their academic achievements. Different departments such as art education, business, psychology, and RHM honor students who have worked hard throughout the year. They are presented with awards in front of their professors, parents and peers.
Two RHM students were honored at the Honors Tea on Sunday. Amy Zajdel, a senior in the program, was awarded the Most Outstanding Senior Award. Larry Bittinger presented Amy with this award. Larry gave a speech to describe Amy and why she was deserving of this award. “If you want to get something done, give it to a busy person. Our outstanding senior is a perfect example of this axiom. Whether it is directing the Rail Jam, managing the student events team, executing a complicated project in her Co-Op, or organizing our graduation reception, she is the go to person. In the classroom or in the RHM community, Amy Zajdel is our outstanding senior." Congratulations, Amy!
The second award was given to Steven Clark. He was named the Most Promising First Year Student. Steve took a couple years off after high school to decide what career path he wanted to take. After careful consideration, Steve found himself enrolled in the RHM program. Steve currently lives in Rutland, works full time with the Killington Resort and is taking on a full school course load. Next year Steve will be the manager of the Community Relations team and will also act as a liaison to the Killington Rotary Club. Steve also received an Academic Honor Award for his high grade point average. Congratulations, Steve!

Laura Batten visits RHM Students
January 6, 2009
Laura is a charter member of the Resort and Hospitality Management Program. She and 10 other students were the first to enroll in the Program (Sept 2001) and were the first class to graduate (June 2004). As a special honor, Killington hosted the graduation ceremony and reception at The Peak.
Since leaving Green Mountain College, Laura has held positions as a Retail Bank-Event Coordinator, PGA TOUR-National Field Manager, and a Program Manager for ING Direct.
During her class visit, Laura regaled students with stories of the first few years in the RHM Program such as first living on the main GMC campus. However, they were promised dorms on the Killington access road. Unfortunately, the plans for this new dorm fell through and the students were told they needed to provide themselves with housing. The dorms that the students were promised is currently the Red Roof Inn. Laura explained how classes were usually never held in the same place as they did not have the Highridge class rooms at the time. They held classes in various locations around the resort such as the Snowshed Base Lodge, the “H” building, and the Grand Hotel Conference Center.

RHM Students Report a Bustling Winter '08
A busy winter has passed with students working in co-ops and participating in events such as the second annual Tricks or Treats Rail Jam. Students competed against each other for the best skier or snowboarder while the audience enjoyed a fantastic pig roast with all the fixings.
The Resort had a busy winter hosting events such as the Chevy U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, the Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge, and Pond Skimming. Killington also hosted a few bands such as the Shiny Toy Guns and the Sunshine Daydream Festival which was a tribute to the Grateful Dead. Killington visitors will be able to enjoy golfing, mountain biking, and alpine sliding within the next couple of months.
