The Program

Designed to help mid- and senior- level professionals deepen their ability to integrate a heightened environmental conscience into their organizations, the Sustainable Business Leadership Program (SBLP) explores the opportunities and challenges related to the successful implementation of sustainable business practices. You’ll learn how to improve your organization’s ability to achieve competitive advantage through strategy and implementation.

Who Is Right for the Program
SLBP is designed for middle- to senior- level professionals in charge of sustainable business and socially responsible corporate and functional programs. The program also benefits senior corporate officers with P&L responsibilities who manage sustainable business or CSR-related dimensions as a part of their core operations. Participants represent a variety of industries with differing sizes and structures, including retail, financial services, and manufacturing. Typical participants will be VPs, AVPs, directors, or other professionals working in the areas of strategy, marketing, corporate or community relations, operations, or sustainability.

Minimum requirements for participation in the program include a bachelor’s degree, five years of work experience and access to high speed internet.

This program fee covers tuition, course materials and meals while in residency. Travel to and from residencies is not included. Program details, dates, faculty and fees are subject to change.

What You Can Expect
This program explores how to improve and deepen your organization’s commitment to and implementation of sustainable business through an in-depth exploration of the current concepts and best case practices. You will learn how to deepen your organization’s practice of sustainable business by integrating it with corporate strategy as well as functional business areas.

Your Course of Study
Through case analyses, faculty lectures, group discussions, and exposure to the latest research, the Green Mountain College faculty help you develop and manage sustainable initiatives that integrate with your business practices and produce measurable results. In addition, you will have numerous opportunities to learn from the varied experiences and global perspectives of your peers in the program.

The program commences with a two-day residency in beautiful Burlington, Vt. You’ll meet the faculty, guest practitioners, and fellow students. You will also learn how to navigate the online learning platform. The residency includes a visit to a sustainable business which will serve as the basis for a strategic management exercise during the residency and the strategic management online work.

Over the following four weeks, using the online program module, you will engage with a specific faculty member and your fellow students in an in-depth exploration of four broadly defined areas:

  • Marketing Management in the Sustainable Firm

  • Supply and Operations Management - A Systems Approach to Competitive Advantage

  • Stakeholder Metrics and Finance at the Sustainable Firm

  • Strategic Management (during which participants design a strategy development and implementation plan for an organization.)
